Ground Breaking – Spring 2019

The Gail S. Halvorsen Aviation Education Center at the Spanish Fork – Springville Airport will serve as the South Utah County Headquarters for the Civil Air Patrol. The Gail S. Halvorsen Aviation Education Center will also assist the community in disaster preparedness planning and provide the opportunity for staging an emergency response center.

Gail at the Airlift/Tanker Association October 25, 2018

  Gail at the Airlift/Tanker Association 2018 Symposium Gail, Denise, Jim, and Phil attended the 2018 Airlift Tanker Association Symposium held at the Gaylord Resort in Grapevine, Texas on 25-28 October, 2018. The Foundation Team was able to network with aerospace industry leaders to introduce them to the Foundation’s important STEM mission. Gail spoke in one of the breakout sessions about his experiences, and was honored at a luncheon held by A/TA Chairman, General Duncan McNabb, USAF (ret). Gail was also able to meet with Colonel Christian Guntsch of the German Air Force whose father was a young boy in Berlin during Operation Little Vittles.

STEM session with Scouts November 28, 2018

  On a very rainy night the Scouts and leaders of BSA Troop 829 met with Phil and Pops Stewart on Nov. 28, 2018 for a truncated tour of Spanish Fork Airport. They were given a demonstration of advanced avionics on the Cessna C-182 by Phil- who recently qualified with the FAA As a certified flight instructor. Pops then gave a presentation on aviation-related careers and how STEM subjects in school helps in preparing for future jobs. A great time was had by all…in spite of the cold and the rain.

“The Candy Bomber” Gala September 22, 2017

  “A Flight to Remember…A Heroes Legacy” Gala honoring Gail Halvorsen “The WWII Candy Bomber” was held September 22, 2017 at the Courtyard at Jamestown in Provo, Utah. Guests were treated to an entertaining evening of dinner, music and live auction. Halvorsen attended this intimate and heartwarming evening held to honor his legacy of hope. Proceeds raised from the Gail Halvorsen “The Candy Bomber” Gala were dedicated to creating a memorial exhibit and aviation education center located in Spanish Fork, Utah.

Day of Simple Service – October 10, 2016

Participants celebrated Gail Halvorsen’s 96th birthday by performing simple acts of service for strangers. Halvorsen has dedicated his life to the service of others and believes “service before self is the only way to fulfillment in life.” This inspiring event uplifted participants and recipients alike.
