The Candy Bomber Tree

This December at BYU-Idaho (Rexburg, ID), in accordance with their yearly tradition of creating a Christmas Tree Lane at the Manwaring Center, each department decorated a tree for this year’s theme: “A Storybook Christmas.”

And yes, you guessed it, among the 20-30 trees throughout the building there was a Candy Bomber Tree, decorated very artistically by the Recreation Department.

The Candy Bomber Tree was inspired by the book “Christmas from Heaven: the True Story of the Berlin Candy Bomber,” by Tom Brokaw. In this beautiful picture book Brokaw describes the flight Hal Halvorsen and others made during the Berlin Airlift at Christmas time. The inspiring story really captures the true meaning of Christmas.

 

 

Brokaw and Halvorsen teamed up with the magnificent Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for a production that brought the book to life and is captured in this short video:
