AFROTC Operation Candy Drop

One Act of Kindness Can Still Change the World

In the spirit of the Berlin Candy Bomber, Colonel Gail S. Halvorsen, AFROTC cadets across the country are taking flight with Operation DET CANDY DROP—a service initiative to demonstrate that one small, intentional act of kindness can still make a world of difference.

This inspiring campaign is a partnership between U.S. Air Force Air Education and Training Command (AETC), the Candy Bomber Foundation, Mars Inc., Sandboxx, and the Airlift/Tanker Association. Together, we are empowering the next generation of Air Force officers to lead not only with excellence—but with heart.

In its 2025 pilot phase, Operation DET CANDY DROP is being launched at:

Across these seven university campuses, at no cost to the US Air Force, cadets are organizing creative, impactful “drops” of kindness—delivering candy, notes of encouragement, and acts of service to fellow students, local schools, and underserved communities.

This is not just about candy. It’s about character. It’s about showing the world that service, compassion, and a sense of mission still matter—and that America’s future officers are leading the way.
